How Often Should a Business Post on Social Media?
It is one of the first questions every business asks about social media, and the honest answer is: as often as you can post something worth seeing. Frequency matters, but only after quality and consistency. This guide gives you practical starting points and a way to find the rhythm that suits your business.
Consistency beats frequency
Posting every day for a fortnight and then disappearing for a month does more harm than posting twice a week, every week. Platforms reward accounts that show up regularly, and so do followers. Choose a pace you can keep up for a year, not a week.
Starting points by platform
These are general guidelines used by many social media teams. Treat them as a place to begin, then adjust based on your own results.
- Instagram: three to five feed posts a week, with stories on most days.
- Facebook: three to five posts a week.
- LinkedIn: two to five posts a week, on weekdays.
- TikTok: three to five short videos a week.
- X: one or more posts a day, as conversation moves quickly there.
What should you post?
A reliable mix keeps a feed interesting and stops it turning into a stream of adverts:
- Helpful content: tips, how-tos and answers to common questions.
- Proof: customer stories, results and behind-the-scenes work.
- Personality: the people and values behind the business.
- Promotion: offers, launches and reasons to buy now.
Keep promotion to a minority of your posts. People follow accounts that give them something, not accounts that only sell.
How to find your own rhythm
- Start at the lower end of the ranges above.
- Keep it up for at least a month so you have meaningful data.
- Check reach and engagement per post, not just totals.
- Increase frequency gradually. If engagement per post drops, you have gone too far.
Signs you are posting too much or too little
Falling engagement per post and rising unfollows suggest too much. Flat follower growth and long gaps between posts suggest too little. Either way, look at the quality of what you are sharing before changing the quantity.
Make it manageable
Plan a month at a time, create content in batches and schedule it in advance. Reuse what you already have: one article can become several posts, a short video and a carousel.
If keeping up is the hard part, our social media marketing team can plan, create and publish for you. The packages on our pricing page show how many posts each one includes.
